Dear Readers,
Assessment sits at the heart of what SEAB does and this issue of our SEAB-link newsletter reflects the breadth and depth of our work, from the design of national examination questions, the development of assessment for learning tools that measure students’ learning in primary schools, to sharing of our assessment expertise with the larger community of local and international educators.
Minister for Education, Mr Desmond Lee, highlighted a 2022 PSLE Mathematics question during the Committee of Supply Debate in March 2026. This offered a timely opportunity for us to share another example of SEAB's approach to assessment design in this issue, where assessment is rigorous and fair, yet leaving space for students to demonstrate their understanding in more ways than one. Complementing this, we spotlight SEAB's adaptive assessment tools, which represent our ongoing efforts in harnessing technology to make assessment more responsive and insightful.
This issue also captures the spirit of knowledge-sharing that defines the education community. The SEAB Assessment Conference 2026 brought together practitioners and experts to exchange ideas and push the boundaries of assessment thinking. We also highlight how SEAB's expertise reaches beyond our shores, informing and enriching the wider teaching community.
This issue additionally celebrates the people who make the success of assessment possible. From a Chief Marker reflecting on a career led with heart, to colleagues who have made a mark through meaningful engagements, these stories are a reminder that assessment excellence is ultimately a human endeavour. We hope you enjoy reading this issue.
