Dear readers,
In this issue, we look at the key milestones that took place in the last few months.
After more than four decades, the GCE O-Level Mid-Year Mother Tongue Language (MTL) examinations drew to a close as we transition to the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) examinations from 2027. We look back at what has changed and how the move creates more time and space for sustained language learning.
Technology continues to open new possibilities too. In Yangon, Myanmar, SEAB supported MOE in delivering computer-based scholarship tests through our e-Examinations system. This year also saw the Mathematics paper conducted using a Multistage Adaptive Testing format for the first time, offering a test experience that adjusts in response to candidates’ performance.
In this issue, we also shared our colleagues’ learning journey to New Zealand. At the 2026 International Test Commission Conference in Auckland, a joint MOE-SEAB team shared Singapore’s experience in fostering positive assessment practices, while visits to New Zealand schools provided opportunities to learn first-hand about another education system.
Closer to home, we welcomed Assistant Professor Park Sei Joon from the National Institute of Education for a week-long attachment with SEAB. The exchange provided a valuable platform for conversations on assessment, research and developments in education, reflecting the importance of professional learning and collaboration.
Together, these stories offer a glimpse into the different ways SEAB is navigating change — strengthening our assessment practices, learning with our partners and exploring how technology can support the future of assessment.
Read on to discover these stories and more in this issue.
