| The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is a national examination, which a pupil sits at the end of primary education. |
The purpose of PSLE is to assess pupils' suitability for secondary education and place them in one of the appropriate secondary school courses, which match their learning pace, ability and inclination. |
Based on their performance in PSLE, pupils are streamed into the Special course, Express course, Normal (Academic) course or Normal (Technical) course in secondary school. |

A pupil can sit the PSLE in the final year of primary education if the pupil is studying in an approved institution in Singapore. |
Parents who are Singaporeans working overseas can apply to register their children who have completed their primary education overseas to sit the PSLE. |
However, they must first enrol their children in an approved institution in Singapore to sit the PSLE in the examination year. |
